Site Analysis

A site survey is an integral part of any system prior to installation. Whether considering solar electric or solar thermal, the survey will determine feasibility, design considerations, shading, and production potential. Using a solar pathfinder, we are able to disseminate the entire years’ insolation as well as any shading caused by trees, rooflines, vent pipes or chimneys. Shading of solar panels, especially PV, is the most prevalent reason a system becomes unfeasible. Photovoltaic panels energy production drops way off with even minor shading, so we must identify and address any shading that may occur at any time of the year.

Once we take a digital picture of the pathfinder projection, we are able to combine this with the tilt and orientation to generate a very accurate monthly production chart. Additionally, measurements will be taken of the site for planning the system size and presenting the best and simplest layout for the prospective solar system.
